ODONTOHELL
In the 2 years that I have been studying Dentistry at the University of Chile, I think I have seen more failures than successes in the faculty's study program, and now I am going to criticize what, at least for me, is the most important thing.
As a dentistry student, I've found myself on a rollercoaster of knowledge, absorbing a vast array of information and I can't help but wonder if it's overburdening us with more than we really need for our future careers. The sheer volume of subjects and information thrown our way is often overwhelming. We delve into intricate details of topics that, though fascinating, might not be crucial in everyday dental practice. It's high time our curriculum was reviewed to focus more on the essentials.
One area that could benefit from streamlining is the extensive anatomy courses. While understanding the oral and craniofacial anatomy is vital, the depth to which we're expected to memorize every minute detail can be excessive. We need to strike a balance between academic knowledge and practical application.
Additionally, more emphasis on courses like patient communication, ethics, and business management would better prepare us for the realities of practicing dentistry.
In conclusion, a more focused and practical-oriented curriculum would benefit dentistry students. It's time to reevaluate the balance between in-depth theory and real-world application, ensuring we graduate as skilled and well-rounded dental professionals. It's not about less learning but learning the right things that truly matter in our future careers.
